WEP involvement with Teachers/Lecturers varies from WEP-run courses, through contributions to courses run by others, to support to Teacher-groups and specially arranged in-school contributions.

CURRENT INVOLVEMENT includes

• 'Bringing woodlands into the classroom' Joint work with East Cumbria Countryside Project and Cumbria Association for Environmental Education developing wood and woodland-related curriculum materials. Supported by the FEI Partnership.

• Support of Ivan Smith, formerly Headteacher of Witherslack CE Primary School (now at Penny Bridge Primary), Cumbria who is working with the children to produce a video record of charcoal-making as currently practised in South Lakeland woodlands. The project has received financial support from South Lakes Business Education Partnership.

  Two videos have been produced and are now available for hire; any small surplus generated will go towards the support of the work of WEP.
  VIDEO A : Weekend in the Woods 1999 The course day is presented as a diary and includes coppice management, snigging, charcoal in barrels, willow weaving, hazel panels, and shave-horse making, with a demonstration of wood sculpture.
  VIDEO B : Weekend in the Woods 2000 with the Windermere Woodland Fair The course day has been edited into craft sections and includes wood sculpture, garden gate hurdles, charcoal in barrels, and hazel hurdles together with some pole lathe working. The video also includes Willow Structures Weekend 2000 and the Waterside UK demonstration of river bank work with willow
  Hire cost is £5 for one tape, £8 for both together, post free - you pay return postage.
  The loan is for up to two weeks. Loans should be requested by post from WEP Office together with payment (cheques made payable to Wood Education Programme please) and your address, and a contact telephone number. If timing is vital please give as much notice as possible.
